Luke Evans: From Singing to Silver Screen Success

Welsh actor Luke Evans discusses his latest film and career

New drama explores the complexities of a gay divorce

Luke Evans, the Welsh actor known for his roles in films such as The Hobbit and Beauty and the Beast, is set to star in a new drama about a gay divorce. The film, titled My Policeman, is based on the novel of the same name by Bethan Roberts and tells the story of a closeted gay policeman who falls in love with a woman. Evans will play the role of the policeman, Tom Burgess, and the film will explore the complexities of the character's sexuality and the impact it has on his relationships.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Evans said that he was drawn to the role because of the character's complexity. "Tom is a very flawed character," he said. "He's not always likeable, but I think that's what makes him so interesting. He's a man who is struggling with his sexuality and trying to find his place in the world." Evans also said that he was attracted to the film's exploration of love and relationships.

My Policeman is not the first time that Evans has played a gay character. He previously starred in the 2013 film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, in which he played a gay photographer. Evans said that he is proud to be able to play gay characters and that he believes it is important to represent the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community on screen.

Evans began his career in musical theatre, starring in productions such as Rent and Miss Saigon. He made his film debut in 2002 in the film Tamara Drewe and has since appeared in a number of films, including Clash of the Titans, The Hobbit trilogy, and Beauty and the Beast. Evans is also set to star in the upcoming Disney+ series Hawkeye.
