Corbyn Makes Emotional Return to Islington North

Former Labour Leader Wins Seat as Independent

Poll Shows Tight Race Heading into Election Day

In a surprising twist, Jeremy Corbyn has cast his vote in the Islington North constituency as an independent candidate. The former Labour leader, who resigned in 2019 after the party's worst election defeat since 1935, won the seat with 24,120 votes, compared to Labour's 16,834 votes. Labour candidate Praful Nargund had held a slight lead in the polls, making the outcome a stunning upset.

Corbyn expressed visible emotions as he thanked the people of Islington North for their support. He outlined several priorities for moving forward, including addressing the climate crisis, inequality, and social justice.

The 75-year-old former Labour leader has served the ward as a Labour member since 1983, winning the seat 10 times at elections.
