FC Bayern Munich defeats GNK Dinamo Zagreb 2-0
FC Bayern Munich made a victorious start to their UEFA Champions League campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win over Croatian champions GNK Dinamo Zagreb.
Goals from Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala earned the German champions a routine victory at the Allianz Arena.
Sane opened the scoring in the 13th minute, pouncing on a rebound after Dinamo goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic had saved Thomas Muller’s initial effort.
Musiala doubled Bayern’s lead just before half-time, finishing off a fine team move involving Sane and Muller.
Bayern controlled the game throughout, and could have won by a more emphatic margin had it not been for some fine saves from Livakovic.
The win gives Bayern a perfect start to their Group E campaign, while Dinamo are left bottom of the group after their opening defeat.
The match was also notable for the debut of Bayern’s new signing Sadio Mane, who came on as a substitute in the second half.
Mane, who joined Bayern from Liverpool this summer, made a lively contribution and was unlucky not to score on his debut.
Bayern will be looking to continue their winning start to the Champions League when they travel to Barcelona in their next group game on 13 September.
